Question:
Good afternoon Installing a D13010 universal drain plug on a factory transmission oil pan for a 2012 Ram 2500 The factory pan does not have a drain plug Is it best to install it on the side of the pan vs. the bottom of the pan?

I recommend installing the Derale Universal Drain Plug Kit # D13010 on your 2012 Ram 2500 transmission oil pan where it protected from any road debris. As with any drain plug you will want it on the lowest portion of the pan away from anything that can hit the bolt and reduce the risk of it loosening on you. The Derale Temperature Gauge Kit # D13009 will allow you to monitor the temperature of the transmission fluid in the pan while you drive.
I do recommend using Loctite Threadlocker # LT37420 on the nut(not the removable bolt) to prevent it from loosening over time.
