Hi, I need to tow a cargo trailer with brakes that comes with a standard 7-way plug. I have a 2015 BMW X5. What do I need? Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

I would be happy to help you set up your 2015 BMW X5 for towing. You're going to need a hitch, a couple wiring harnesses, brake controller, and a ball mount with a ball.

For your hitch I recommend the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver item # EH44FR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts directly to your BMW with included hardware. The best feature about this hitch is that the receiver portion is completely removable. When you're not towing your trailer you can unbolt the receiver and your BMW will retain its factory look. This removable design also allows you to retain all the features of your back up sensors when you're not towing.

In order to install a 7-way vehicle connector on your X5 you will need two wiring harnesses the first is the Curt Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector item # C56190KIT. This custom-fit connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in the rear cargo area. This will provide you with a 4-flat connector.

The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.

To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
