Should I Install A Class III Or Class IV Hitch On My 2011 Ford F-150 XLT with the 3.5L EcoBoost?

Question:
I have 2011 F150 XLT Econoboost 3.5L, I believe and though I havent settled on my trailer so dont know weight yet, have a couple questions. what is max trailer weight for this truck also interested in the c14002 or the Draw-Tite class III. Are either of them workable and would I be better off with the class 4 c14002 since I dont know final weight. I can always have too much weight and tongue weight capability with that and not need it correct? or is there some functional reason to have the Draw-Tite class III over that one?

When equipped with the Max Trailer Tow Package, specific axle ratios, and cab size, your 2011 Ford F-150 XLT with the 3.5L EcoBoost can have a maximum towing capacity of 11,300 pounds. Again, this is dependent on how your truck came equipped from Ford, so you definitely want to verify this before going with that number. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to check the driver's door jamb. There will be a sticker/label with the specific capacities for your truck. You can also check the owner's manual, but the door jamb is easier. You can also contact a Ford dealer with your VIN, but again, I'd check the door jamb.
With that said, getting a hitch that may be higher capacity than your truck is not a bad thing. Though not in all cases, if it's worth doing, it's worth over doing (not with weight distribution though). However, I do need to mention that you will always be limited by the lowest rated component in a towing set up, so just be aware of that. So long story short, I'd go with the Curt Class IV # C14002. It will end up matching your capacities better.
