When towing a vehicle with a motorhome there are five components needed: baseplates for the towed vehicle, towbar, safety cables/chains, lighting system, and supplemental braking system.
Starting with the baseplate, as long as your 2012 GMC Canyon is not the Z71 or Xtreme model, then RoadMaster XL Base Plate # 3122-1 will fit your truck. If your 2012 Canyon is the Z71 model then RoadMaster XL # 3164-1 is the correct baseplate kit for your truck. Both kits have removable arms and will fit your RoadMaster Blackhawk Tow Bar. If your truck is the Xtreme model, then, unfortunately, there is not a base plate kit to fit it at this time.
Blue Ox # BX88197 is a set of 2, 10,000lb cables that when uncoiled reach 7 feet in extended length. For a lighting system, I recommend the Hopkins Wiring Kit # HM56109. This kit is easy to hook-up without cutting or splicing.
The final piece you need is the supplemental braking system. I recommend the RoadMaster Proportional System # RM-9400. In order for the system to work with your vehicle, you will need the RoadMaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751220.
I have attached FAQ articles covering tow bar and taillight wiring, supplemental braking systems and vehicle towing basics.
