Correct Torque for Replacement U-Bolt with Locknuts for 12,000-lb and 15,000-lb Trailer Axles
Updated 09/28/2021 | Published 09/27/2021 >
Question:
If I didnt use a torque wrench to tighten the nuts on the u-bolts but I am sure they were all tight and maybe over tighten them, what can happen? Can I loosen the nuts and this time use a torque wrench? Now I fear that I install them and might fall apart. Thanks

The Replacement U-Bolt with Locknuts for 12,000-lb and 15,000-lb Trailer Axles part # 11-70 needs to be torqued to 160 ft-lbs. If the nuts are not torqued enough they could come loose or if they are over torqued they could deform the u-bolt and stress the metal to a point where breakage can occur. A torque wrench can be rented for free from local auto parts stores.
