Is 7-way Connector Needed For Towing Tear Camper With Electric Trailer Brakes W/ 2019 Ford Ecosport?
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I was told by my dealer to get a 7 pin connector because my tear camper has electric brakes and 12 volt. If I decide to go with a wireless brake controller or with Autowbrake controller, do I still need a 7 pin or is 4 pin sufficient for my hookup? 2019 Ford EcoSport

Even with a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180 or the Autowbrake controller # 3430001 will require a 7-way connector to be installed on your 2019 Ford Ecosport to control your Tear Campers trailer brakes.
I recommend going with the Curt Echo Wireless and the 7-way Connector # ETBC7L as it will be the easiest to get installed, while still being a very reliable option. To get this installed you will first need to install a 4-way connector using the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236.
Once a 4-way connector is installed the # ETBC7L will plug directly into the connector and you will just need to make two more connections. The black wire will need to get run to the positive terminal of the battery with the included 40 amp circuit breaker, and the white wire will get grounded to the frame of your vehicle.
To mount the # ETBC7L to your trailer hitch receiver you will need the No-Drill Mount Bracket, Long # 18136.
If you do not already have a trailer hitch receiver I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # C12188 which is a quality hitch made right here in the USA, and has a 350lb tongue weight rating and 3500lb trailer weight rating.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
