Question:

I worry about being stranded in limp mode such as DEF malfunction on my 2017 Ram Cummins. I read where you have 150 miles of normal driving before limp mode but I may be 250 miles from a technician. Will this unit temporarily clear codes to resume normal driving? Would gladly buy unit just for this feature.

I just got off the phone with Edge Performance and the Edge Juice Cs2 Performance Tuner # EP31407 along with any other product they make will not touch any emission codes. So they cannot help you delete the DEF on your 2017 Ram 3500 nor can they temporarily clear the code to prevent LIMP mode.

Your only option to prevent LIMP mode from ever happening would be to take your truck to a custom shop and have them tune it out. That being said, if you do have a shop delete the DEF on your truck you won't be able to use any of their tuners. The only thing you could get from Edge after the delete would be the Insight Gauge Display # EP84030 which will only show you EGT and Transmission Temps. This is basically just an alternative monitor to show you more of what your truck's telling it.

The first thing that most of my friends do is get the DEF deleted on their trucks. Even a brand new truck goes from the dealership straight to the shop for the delete. In my experience that's what most people are doing and that's what I recommend. DEF is unnecessary in my opinion so why not remove it from the situation. A tune can be pricey but it's a fixed cost and constantly buying DEF is not.

The tune will eventually pay for itself.
