Can The Hopkins Multi-Tow Trailer Adapter Power a Wheelchair Lift Motor?

Updated 06/18/2021 | Published 06/16/2021

Question:

I just bought a Wheelchair lift used to mount on my 2020 Honda Ridgeline AWD sport truck to carry my wheelchair. Lift company recommends using wiring harness to connect the lift motor directly to the vehicle battery, requiring an expensive installation. My question is, how much current does the typical lift motor draw and could I use the 12 v available from your adapter to power the lift motor? Thanks

According to the owners manual for your 2020 Honda Ridgeline your 7-way uses a 20 amp fuse for the charge line that would power the Hopkins Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter # HM47675.

Of the couple lifts that I checked the manufacturer requirements for power they both require a 30 amp fused circuit connected to the battery with a 10 gauge wire. You can verify the requirements for your wheelchair lift from the manufacturer but with the information I have from the 2 manufacturers it will not work on your Ridgeline.

We do offer Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge Wire # 10-2-1 by the foot and a 30 amp. In-Line Circuit Breaker # 38630. With the addition of some Ring Terminals # DW05740-1 you would be able to build your own harness for the wheelchair lift.
