Installation of Roadmaster Invisibrake on 2015 Buick Enclave and Pulling Fuses For Charging Battery

Question:

I already have a Roadmaster Sterling tow bar that’s missing the crossbar and this is the setup I’m considering for flat towing my 2015 Buick Enclave with a 2009 Entegra Coach Cornerstone: 1. Roadmaster Baseplate 523149-1 2. Roadmaster Crossbar 910021-00 3. FuseMaster 50 Amp Bypass Switch 76517 4. FuseMaster 2x15 Amp Bypass Switch 76514 5. Roadmaster InvisiBrake 8700 a. I chose this system because I don’t want to tie into the motorhome’s air brakes. b. What are your recommended locations to install the control box and actuator in a ’15 Enclave? c. Is it necessary to install the DM66VR battery charge wire kit or is it redundant since the 8700 charges the battery? d. The owner’s manual calls for the removal of, among others, the 50 amp BATT1 fuse. Again, since the 8700 charges the battery is this still required? 6. Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit 152 7. Roadmaster Bracket 910030-7 8. Roadmaster 6-Wire Connector 910030-5 a. What is the recommended method of attaching this connector as well as the breakaway switch that comes with the 8700? b. I’ve seen this connector attached to various other baseplates using the 910030-7 but that bracket, with its short flange, doesn’t seem to be the appropriate part. c. Are there other brackets available that are suitable for attaching the breakaway switch and the 6-wire connector to the vehicle structure? 9. Can you please provide any additional input that could help ensure that I cover all the bases a get everything required to accomplish this task? Many thanks in advance for your support and speedy reply.

It sounds like you've got a pretty good idea of what you want to do, and it looks like you've got a good parts list for your 2015 Buick Enclave. When it comes to installing the Roadmaster Invisibrake # RM-8700 the best location is typically under the driver's seat, but you can reasonably install this unit anywhere in the cabin of the vehicle where the adjustment knob is easily accessible. In the installation on a 2015 GMC Terrain it was installed in the rear cargo area of the vehicle.

In regards to pulling the fuses, we do still recommend following the owner's manuals procedures on flat towing; the Invisibrake # RM-8700 will also not provide a true charge to your Enclave's battery and would only provide a trickle charge. Because your vehicle will likely need more than that to avoid draining the battery I recommend that you also install the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 which will put a maintenance charge on your Enclave battery as you are towing. This will require the trailer wiring of your tow vehicle to have the 12 volt circuit. If not you'd also need the # RM-156-75.

To connect the wiring from the Roadmaster Hy-Power Diode Kit # RM-15267 you'll need to connect the bracket to either the fascia or the vehicle frame; the breakaway switch from the Invisibrake will need to be connected to the frame directly and cannot be connected to fascia. There are some good installation videos on a similar GMC Terrain that I've linked that give you some ideas on this. When it comes to completing the installation of these parts you're going to generally get everything you'll need to do the job including any mounting hardware (unless otherwise stated).

Let me know if there are videos of installations that I might have left off that you'd be interested in seeing and I can help locate those for you as well.
