Can a base plate be installed on this item to pull behind motor home. I am wanting to pull dodge behind motor home with tow bar.

In order to safely tow your 2006 Dodge Dakota Pickup behind your motor home, you will need a hitch on your motor home, base plates on the front of your vehicle, a tow bar and a few accessories. This Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch part # 31228 is intended for the front of a vehicle for use with snow plows, winches and tow hooks, so that would not work for your application. However, we carry the products you will need to get the job done.

You will need base plates for your vehicle. The Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, part # 52276-1, is custom fit for your 2006 Dodge Dakota Pickup.

You will also need a tow bar. If you are only towing occasionally, I would recommend the RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar - 5,000 lbs, part # RM-020, and the Roadmaster Tow Bar Quck Disconnect Kit, part # RM-201. If you are towing on a regular basis, the RoadMaster Sterling All Terrain Tow Bar with 6-Wire Electric Cord - 6,000 lbs, part # RM-576, which includes the 6-wire electric cord, cables and quick disconnects would your best option.

To wire your Dakota so that the tail lights work along with those of the tow vehicle, the Roadmaster Bulb and Socket Kit, # RM-155 is the easiest installation.

Keep in mind that many states and Canadian Provinces now require a supplemental braking system like the Roadmaster Even Brake, # RM-9400. The Even Brake allows the towed vehicle brakes to operate in tandem with those of the tow vehicle leading to safer, more predictable braking.

Many vehicles require modifications like a transmission lube pump or drive shaft disconnect in order to be flat towed, check with your owners manual or Dodge for specific procedures.
