Recommended Back-Up Camera To Replace Rear View Mirror On Truck With Camper Shell

Updated 01/11/2021 | Published 01/08/2021

Question:

I have a pickup with a camper shell. so my traditional mirror is useless for seeing behind the vehicle. Im looking for a system that will: 1 allow for the camera/mirror to be on while the vehicle is running for up to 10 hours a day while traveling, 2 ideally the mirror/monitor to fit over an existing traditional mirror, and 3 for the backup lines to come on ONLY when the vehicle is placed in reverse. I can find lots of systems that will cover points 1 and 2 but its #3 that I cant seem to get info on - if the activation of the backup lines can be separate from the activation of the mirror/monitor.

I may have an option for you, but unfortunately there is not a rear view mirror that has all of the functions you are looking for. While you can absolutely wire the mirror to a keyed power source so you that the camera is on while you are driving as you mentioned, there is not a mirror capable of switching to the back up lines when you vehicle is put in reverse as they are all designed to either have the back up lines on or off and no way to know when you vehicle is in reverse. The only option will be to either have the back up lines on all of the time, or off all of the time.

With that being said I recommend the Rear View Safety G-Series Backup Camera System # RVS-776718 due to its 4.3" screen which will be able to provide a clear picture of what is going on behind your vehicle, and the 170 degree angle to give you plenty of visibility pf what is behind you but also what is around you. The # RVS-776718 is designed to replace most mirrors.

I included a video of the Rear View Safety # RVS-776718 for you to take a look at.
