What Does the Tow Haul Button Do On a 2013 Dodge Durango
Updated 12/17/2020 | Published 12/15/2020 >
Question:
I am looking at a 2013 Dodge Durango Crew with a 5.7 Hemi. It does not have a tow/haul mode and I was wondering if this is an important feature for towing my camper. My camper and gear will top out at 5000lbs max. I will have to add a hitch and wiring, which is no big deal,, but I am concerned about not having tow/haul mode.

The tow haul button is a common option on most trucks and SUV's suited for towing. The feature affects the transmission. It limits the number and frequency of shifts while hauling which helps improve performance and cuts down on wear. If your vehicle did not come with this, you're not out of luck. The same or similar benefits can be had for a plug-in style tuner, the Edge Gas Evolution CTS3 Performance Tuner part # EP99YR. The tuner will have an edge on the tow haul mode as well increasing power and improving gas mileage. The towing mode on said tuner will function very similar to the tow haul button in regards to the adjusted shift patterns for the transmission.
