Question:
Hello, I am looking for a trailer hitch for my 2018 2.5i Subaru Forester. What is the difference between square tube and round tube? Is there a benefit to either? Some instal times vary between your products- I assume this is because some need to the exhaust and some dont. Is it correct to assume the longer install times result in a more secure fit? Thanks

There are two different types of hitch available for your 2018 Subaru Forester. One type will be fully exposed once installed like the Curt # C13144 that you'd looked at, that would have the hitch crossbar visible from the rear and the other is the concealed type like # CU64FR which has the crossbar concealed behind the bumper so that the only visible portion of the hitch is the receiver tube and the safety chain hoops.
The # C13144 uses round tubing for the crossbar, because most folks find that more visually appealing, the concealed hitches like # CU64FR use square tubing because the crossbar is concealed behind the bumper so aesthetics aren't as important.
The concealed hitches are more difficult to install because the heat shield by the muffler will need to be modified or removed and the fascia notched so the receiver will pass through it.
There is also a price differential between the types of hitches as well. If you're looking for a more inexpensive hitch that's easier to install and you don't mind the hitch being fully visible from the rear, the Curt # C13144 would be a great choice. However, if you don't want the hitch to be completely visible from the rear, then the # CU64FR would be a better choice. I've provided a photo showing what the hitches look like when they're installed.
I've linked to install videos and instruction links for both hitches mentioned above.
