Question:
Hello, Bought a used boat trailer for my 27foot Boat. The rails land right on the chimes so im looking to cut off the existing bottom brackets and possibly weld these on to the existing frame. Do you see any issues with that? Thanks

Expert Reply:
Because the CE SMith Heavy Duty, Vertical Bunk Brackets # CE10160GA-2 are galvanized steel, I don't recommend welding them because of the inherent issues that come along with welding on a coated steel. These are designed to be secured to the trailer frame using U-bolts like the # CE15283GA-2, so I do recommend using that method.
I've gone ahead and linked our entire selection of u-bolts in case you find that you need something a bit longer, as well.
