For your 2001 GMC Savana Van without any trailer connector, you will need a few things to get your complete setup for towing a trailer with electric brakes.
For your trailer wiring you will start with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118377 which connects to your factory wiring at two points in the rear cargo area. Then use the # ETBC7 kit to give you the 7-way along with the 12v and brake output wiring. I've attached a video and article to assist.
Finally, for your brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK90160.
