Updated 05/06/2020 | Published 05/04/2020

Question:

hello, Im looking for the highest rated weight capacity trailer hitch receiver I can. Get my hands on. Universal weld on design would be best. Its going on a diesel motorhome. Need a 20000 rating. Will be bolted and welded directly to the full frame. My frame rails are 36 apart from inside to inside

The heaviest duty hitch available for a 36 inch wide frame is rated for 16,000 lbs towing and 1,600 lbs tongue weight. This is a Class V trailer hitch that can be welded or bolted to the frame and it comes in a 7 inch drop version # 41990-07 and a 16 inch drop version # 41990-16. The drop is the distance from the top of the frame bracket to the center of the receiver tube. This hitch can also be purchased without brackets as part # 41990, if you can fit it directly to the frame.

Higher rated hitches require frame widths of 34 inches or less and unfortunately do not recommend using spacers to decrease the width of wider frames.

If you plan on doing some towing, you will also want to add a wiring harness, ball mount and hitch ball. I attached a link to all of our 16K rated ball mounts and the hitch balls can be found on the product page for each ball mount. For the wiring, I recommend the following parts:

7-Pole RV-Style Connector # PK11898
Long No-Drill Bracket # C57202
10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 (as much as you need to run to coach battery and into cab for brake controller if needed)
14 Gauge Wire # SWC4332-1 (as much as you need to run to tail lights)
Heat-shrink wrap # DW05449
