Sliding Hitch Recommendation for RAM 1500 6 foot 4 inch Bed
Updated 04/27/2020 | Published 04/24/2020 >
Question:
I am looking to buy a fifth wheel and a Ram pick-up truck. If I also purchase a sliding hitch, will the 5-7 box give the clearance I need for the rv or do I need to go to the 6-4 box?

For clearance with a 5th wheel on a Ram truck you will want the 6 foot 4 inch bed with sliding hitch over the 5 ft 7 inch box. The shortest box requires a specific pin box like the Sidewinder to give you the turning clearance needed and a non-sliding hitch like # RP30047. The sliding hitch will not work for that short a box.
With the 6 foot 4 inch box, a standard sliding hitch is compatible so that is my recommendation which will give you a better cost. If you do not have the rails then I recommend getting custom rails like # RP56018-53 (for 2019 and 2020 1500 models) and sliding hitch # RP30051.
