Question:
The M Sport rear bumper does NOT have the center removable panel that the std model has. Does that cause an installation issue? Will it require cutting the bumper itself?

That's a Great question! The etrailler- matte black - Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit- Class III - 2" part # e93KR will fit your 0217 BMW X1 Sport model perfectly. While they are very different than the standard models of the X1 the Sport offers a very similar installation. The difference is that you are going to remove a slightly larger section of that rear fascia. Instead of removing the smaller gray lower fascia you will remove the slightly larger black lower fascia area.
If you will be pulling any type of trailer or hauling a cargo carrier with lights I recommend using the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Connector part # 118717 This will give you a 4-way flat trailer connector to use for the lights should you ever need it. It is designed to plug directly in to the factory connectors behind your tail lights so there won't be any cutting or splicing of the factory wiring required. There is a link for this page and an installation on it for reference.
