Curt Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Volkswagen GTI
Updated 06/18/2012 | Published 06/15/2012 >
Question:
Hi, I see you answered someones question about the draw-tite and the curt on a 2010 GTI but that Curt is a different model number. Can you give me any information as to whether the DrawTite 24825 or the Curt 11074 is more concealed on a 2006 GTI? All 3 appear favorably reviewed and Im down to my final decision making. I will be using a 2 bike rack and possibly towing a motorcycle trailer at some point. Also, is there any significant difference in capability of the square tube design vs the rounded tubes? Thanks!

The main difference between the Curt Hitch # 11074 and the Draw-Tite Hitch # 24825 is like you already noticed, the Curt is a round tube and the others are square.
Generally speaking, most people agree that the round tube style hitches look less visible. It also helps that the Curt has brackets that do not come down on either side of the cross tube as far either.
I think the Curt hitch would be the best choice for you as it be less visible for the above mentioned reasons.
I attached a page that has all of the 2 bike racks that are compatible with Class I hitches like the Curt hitch. You will want to make sure not to exceed the towing capacities of the hitch and what is listed in the owners manual of your vehicle with the trailer and bike rack.
When using a non supported load like a bike rack on a Curt hitch Curt recommends the use of a stabilizing strap like the part # 18050. Check out the helpful link I provided that will take you to a page that has a video that shows how this product works.
