Before purchasing a ball mount and a hitch ball you should measure the height of your trailer hitch and compare that to the height of your coupler. I have attached an article that shows how to measure your hitch height and coupler height to find the correct rise or drop you need in a ball mount.
Once you have determined the rise or drop that you need, you will want to choose a ball mount with the correct rise or drop that is rated for the weight of your trailer. It sounds like you currently have a ball mount with a 3 inch rise and you are still 3 inches short. If this is the case, then I would recommend getting a ball mount with a rise near 6 inches.
You most likely have a 2 inch x 2 inch receiver on your truck so you could use our Cushioned Ball Mount 6-3/4 Rise, # AMSC8, with a 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball, # 63847, or you may be interested in our Diversi-Tech Solid Aluminum Ball Mount 5 Inch Rise, # DTBM5600, with 2-5/16 inch hitch ball with 1 inch rise, # C40086.
If you measure your hitch and coupler height and determine you need a different rise or drop or if your trailer hitch receiver is larger than 2 inches x 2 inches, then let me know so I can recommend the correct ball mount and hitch ball for your set up.
