Is There a General Lifespan of a Weight Distribution System

Updated 02/25/2020 | Published 11/12/2019

Question:

How long do these last? I have an old one than keeps ping the bars off once it is under pressure. Do the spring attachments in the hitch wear out and require to be replaced?

The Pro Series Weight Distribution System w Friction Sway Control # PS49904 kit that you referenced has a 10-year limited warranty so if anything is failing and you're within that time period then you should be able to get it replaced.

As far as general lifespan on a weight distribution (WD) system goes, that's next to impossible to determine just because there are a vast number of variables that play into it. These include things like weight of the trailer, conditions of the road traveled on, how often it is used, how well kept it is (during storage and when in use), plus the driving habits of the individual as well.

If you are needing to replace your WD system just let me know what the loaded weight of your trailer is and I'd be more than happy to make a recommendation!

Looking to replace a CURTI believe WD system. It is from 2006, bought new. Trailer is pulled today by a different tow rig2016 2500 RAM HD and shank is too short to allow my tailgate to clear the trailers tongue jack, an Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack - 18 Lift - 3,500 lbs. Loaded weight of trailer, NTE 11k. It is a 2006 Skyline Rampage toy hauler. Would prefer a 2.5 hitch, but not required.

If you still have the Curt WD system and it's appropriately rated for the trailer, you could simply use a longer shank with part # C17122. This unit measures 14" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes, providing quite a bit more clearance between your trailer jack and truck. There isn't a longer shank like this available for 2-1/2" receivers.
