Video Transcript for Curt Weight Distribution C17122 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the CURT Weight Distribution Shank. This shank is going to slide into the hitch on your vehicle and it's going to provide the attachment point for your weight distribution system's head assembly. This is designed for use with CURT weight distribution systems. It's going to feature nine adjustment points for attaching the head assembly. So that's really going to come handy when it comes to leveling your trailer with your tow vehicle. You can use this in either the drop or rise position so both are available to best fit your application. This is made from a steel construction.

It's going to feature a really nice black patter coated finish so it's going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. The products' made right here in the USA. It is designed for a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver. It's going to offer a weight capacity of fifteen thousand pounds with towing weight capacity of fifteen hundred pounds. There are a few measurements that I want to over with you real quick. Again, it's going to feature nine adjustment holes.

The distance that we have between each hole, center on center, those are going to be separated apart from one another by an inch and a quarter. When it comes to installing this in the drop position, that would be installing it just like this. It would give you a maximum drop with a head assembly at the lowest setting using a CURT Round Bar System of seven inches. Trimming Bar System from CURT would be a maximum drop of five inches. If using this in the rise position, with a CURT Round Bar System, with the head assembly at the highest setting, it would give you a maximum rise of ten and half inches and with a Trimming Bar System from CURT, it'd give you a maximum rise of eleven and one quarter. Rise and drop is measured from the inside top edge receiver tube of your hitch to the top of the ball platform. If we take a measurement from the center of the pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes, that's going to give us a measurement of fourteen inches.

Overall, very back to very front is going to be eighteen inches. Measuring from the center of the pin hole to the closest point here at the gusset, basically measuring to the base of that weld, that's going to give a measurement of about five inches, from the center hitch pin hole to this point right here. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the shank, that's going to give us a measurement of right at three inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the CURT Weight Distribution Shank for two inch by two inch hitches.

This shank was excellent! I did however cut about 1.5 inches off the bottom for more ground clearance after I established where I needed to mount my hitch. 577163

This does just what I need it to do. I bent a hollow shank 12" extension and knew I needed something stronger. This works like a champ. The length is perfect. My camper cannot quite reach the trailer but it keeps the trailer close coupled. Jack knifing is almost impossible. As always etrailer service was perfect. 216239

This extension shank is just as described, Except the actual length from the hitch pin hole to the outside end of the shank is 15 inches. It is advertised as 16". That matters to pickup owners wanting to know if the extension will allow their trailer to clear the tailgate if it is in the lay down position. (it will on my Ram 1500) Solid, welded points done well. Finish is good. The quality of this shank is actually better than the original shank that came with my Equalizer brand hitch system. 212142

Product arrived in three days, great packing. Good quality and works as advertised. The other reviews helped with my decision to give it a try. It allows you to leave your tailgate down so you can load a atv in the back of a shortbox truck and still be able to hitchup and turn with a trailer attached. 628339

Etrailer has been a God sent to me. I was looking for a hitch extension and when I found Etrailer.com and talked with their staff, they helped me redirect my attention to a shank that would work better and safer. The cost was real reasonible and was shipped out right away. If there is anything they can do for you they will go out of their way to make it happen. Very satisfied customer. Thank you Chedi J. and the rest of the staff at Etrailer.com Thanks Stan 583296

Nice product, for my application I had to cut about 1 inch off the bottom so it would not scrape. The product works as designed, and I'm very pleased with the outcome. 581184

Have towed with this shank coupled through a Husky Centerline weight distribution and sway bar hitch to my Lance 2285 trailer for some 12,000 miles this past year and it has done a great job. The 14" length allows me to travel with my truck tailgate down whilst pulling the trailer - plenty of clearance in turns etc. 580295

- C17122
by:

It's perfect. The only thing I need to do is lengthen my safety chains a bit more (which is no big deal and easy to do) and possibly find a way to lengthen my power cord that plugs into my truck...Not that I HAVE to but it is a bit stretched and making right turns could tighten it up. BUT, other than those few last little adjustments, the shank has allowed me to drop my ball and level my trailer out more, allowing for safer towing! I love it and I have always loved using eTrailer.com for my towing needs! 568280

The length from the receiver was more than I was expecting. But it allows me to lower the tailgate without hitting the jack on the trailer now. Awesome! 465388

Fits perfectly needed a long shank because of the bumper coming out to much from the hitch 396075

This is one sturdy piece of equipment. I needed a lower drop and this unit is much heavier than the cast iron shank I had before. I also like the extra length - the crank on the camper will not interfere with the tailgate now. 281042

Bought the 16 inch shank because we have a 3/4 ton suburban and in order for the gate to open past the power bully winch head. We needed it to be long. Now I have 4 inches to spare. I was apprehensive about length compromising strength, but we towed two hundred miles yesterday with it and it worked great, because of the dimensions were spelled out precisely on the website, I was able to use my old weight distribution system, it bolted right up with no extra parts. We have a tongue weight of 775 lbsand rv weigh of 7500 pounds, no problem and am very please with my purchase. 84689

  • Extended Length Weight Distribution Shank for Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System
  • The Curt Weight Distribution Shank, 14 Inches Long # C17122 will work well with your Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System # FA92-00-0600. This Curt weight distribution shank measures 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes, and the shank is 18 inches long overall. The spacing of the adjustment holes on this shank is 1-1/4 inches center to center, which is the same as your existing Fastway weight distribution shank. I've attached a review video...

  • I am sure we can get you set up with the parts you will need to get a little more clearance between the truck and trailer. Curt shank # C17122 measures 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes so it will provide a little more clearance. Adding Timbren springs # TDR2500D will help the truck support all of that weight better and will help reduce stress on the stock suspension so it would be beneficial to use it. • Since it sounds like you're needing more drop because your new truck is taller, I'd go with the Curt # C17122 which is 16 inches long and has a maximum rise of 10-1/4 inches or drop of 6 inches. The shank has 3/4 inch diameter holes that are 1-1/4 inches apart on center. Then, measure the height of the trailer coupler when...

  • We have found a few brands that use their own unique weight distribution shanks, but for the most part they are universal, including your Eaz-Lift shank. You can verify this by measuring the diameter of the bolt holes (3/4 inch diameter) and the distance between each bolt hole (should be 1-1/4 inches). • Will Using a Longer Weight Distribution Shank Reduce Rear End Sag on the Tow Vehicle
  • Is this by any chance on a 1/2 ton truck? If so then the suspension on 1/2 ton trucks can sag even when weight distribution is used. Using a shank that extends out further could help but then the weight distribution system might not be providing the most weight distribution that it can. What I recommend is to use some helper springs to better support the stock suspension on the truck. I would need to know the year, make, and model of the truck to make specific recommendations. It...
