We do have bike racks that convert from 4-bike racks to 2-bike racks, however, the Saris SuperClamp EX 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount part # SA4026F does not convert. You can certainly choose to carry between 1-4 bikes as needed. Unfortunatly, it cannot be broken down into a 2 bike carrier. There is a Saris SuperClamp 2 bike rack available with part # SA4025F.
For a carrier that easily converts from a 2-bike rack to a 4-bike Rack , the Thule T2 Pro XTR 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches part # TH69TX would work wonderfully for you. It also tilts away for easy access to your cargo area. This is an extremely popular brand and rack. The 2-bike version of this is the # TH83JV.
