Installing Roof Rack on Fixed Mounting Points of 2008 Mercedes C-Class Sedan Without Panoramic Roof

Updated 06/21/2019 | Published 06/20/2019

Question:

2008 Mercedes C Class Sedan with sunroof, no Panoramic Roof Rack System Good Morning, In order to install, for example, the Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar system onto my 2008 Mercedes C Class, would I need to remove the stripping that runs along the seam of the roof of my car in order to remove the caps that cover the roof rack connection points? Or could I just simply lift up the caps and place the system over top and screw it down without having to remove the whole strip to take the caps out? Also, I am just going to be using a roof rack to transport my 6 foot 4 inch surfboard to and from my house to the beach not far from me, so I was wondering if the system that uses the door jamb hooks or something like the Seasucker vacuum cup racks would be a better use?? Please help. Thank you.

That's an excellent question and installing a roof rack onto your 2008 Mercedes C-Class sedan will require you to use fixed mounting points on your roof which has stripping. I took a look at the owner's manual for your vehicle and it states to access those mounting points you only need to "Flip trim covers open" so you would NOT have to remove the whole strip.

I have added a photo from Yakima showing their roof rack installed on an '08 Mercedes C-Class sedan, and this rack as well as the Rhino-Rack will use the same fixed mounting points so it will be the same install.

The Rhino-Rack that fits your car consists of:

- Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA126B-2 (Black) OR # RRVA126S-2 (Silver)
- Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs # RRRLKVA
- Custom DK Fit Kit # DK286

The Yakima roof rack that fits your car consists of:

- Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425
- SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR
- Landing Pad 22 # Y00248
- Lock Cores # Y07204

To carry your surfboard I recommend checking out the Rhino-Rack SUP and Surfboard Pads w/ Tie-Downs for Crossbars # RRRWP05 for an easy, secure and cost-effective way to transport your surfboard to the beach.

I have added links to some video reviews for you to check out as well.
