Question:
I had a 2009 escape with a drawtite? hitch 1-1/4”. I traded that in for a 2018 ford edge sel and ordered and installed a drawtite hitch for it. The top of hitch height data of the edge said 12.5” ground to top of hitch is 12-1/2”. What was the height of the escapes hitch? Standard 14” wheels/tires.... ?. I’m trying to determine which ball mount I’ll need.

Thanks for the order of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75234 and when we test fit it on a 2018 Ford Edge, you are correct that the distance from the top of the receiver to the ground was 12-1/2". In regards to the height of the Draw-Tite # 36501, when we test fit it on a 2009 Ford Escape the top of its receiver to the ground was 16-3/4", though that's not a height you will want to use to determine the ball mount you'll need.
In order to choose the correct ball mount, there are a couple measurements you'll need to take. First, make sure both your vehicle and trailer are parked on level ground; you'll then want to measure from the ground to the top of the inside of your hitch receiver. Next, measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer's coupler and find the difference between the two measurements.
If the height of your hitch is greater, you will need a ball mount with that amount of drop. If the height of the coupler is greater, you'll need a ball mount with that amount of rise.
For example, if the top of the hitch to the ground on your '18 Edge did measure 12-1/2" like in our linked installation video, and the bottom of your coupler measured 10-1/2", you would need a ball mount with 2" of drop such as the Curt # C45010.
Or if the top of the hitch to the ground on your 2018 Edge measured 11-1/4" and the bottom of your coupler measured 14" you would need a ball mount with 2-34" of rise such as the Curt Ball Mount # C45311.
I also recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which is for 2” hitches and may fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts - one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop – along with a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip.
I've attached a link to a help article on ball mounts for you to take a look at, as well as a link to our selection of both fixed and adjustable ball mounts that fit a 2" hitch.
