The towing capacity for your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and your 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are going to vary greatly depending on options but can be as high as 8,900 lbs. The best way to find out what the exact towing capacity is for either Chevrolet Silverado is to compare the options that you have to the chart listed on page 4-70 to 4-75 of your owner's manual.
If it turns out that you are able to pull the 5th wheel then you will need a few items in order to do so. If either truck has a 6-1/2' bed then you will need a sliding 5th wheel hitch but if either has an 8' bed then you can use a fixed 5th wheel hitch. For a 5th wheel hitch, I really like the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16115 for fixed or part # 16516 for slider. This is a great option for a first hitch that won't break the bank. In order to install this, you will also need to use the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16418-204.
