Consequences of Using a Higher Weight Rating than Needed Weight Distribution
Updated 03/28/2019 | Published 03/27/2019 >
Question:
Hi, what are the consequences of using a higher tongue weight rated WD hitch with Sway Prevention than required? Example Trailer is 7x16 enclosed v-nose 600lb/7000lb. But installed hitch is 800-1,200lb/8,000-12,000lb. Thanks

Expert Reply:
If you use a weight distribution system that's rated too high for the tongue weight of the trailer you'll experience a very harsh ride quality. You really will want to go with a lower rated system. If you tell me what brand and model system you have I can see if you can just swap to a lower rated set of spring bars and be set.
