Will Installing Yakima Roof Rack on 2012 Mazda CX-9 Cause Damage

Question:

We watched some videos for this roof rack installing on a Mazda CX9 and it appears that in order to install the landing pads you have to take out a top plastic/rubber strip on the side of the car and then install the landing pad. Our question is then what to do with the 1/2 wide groove the length of the car where the strip had been? ... Seems like that leaves a place for water, snow and ice to accumulate. Thanks!

The Yakima roof rack which fits your 2012 Mazda CX-9 does install into fixed mounting points that will need to be exposed as will a groove. This is nothing in particular to worry about and have never heard of a car being damaged due to water, snow or ice in that groove. You can attempt to cut that strip in between where you are mounting the landing pad but there really isn't a reason to worry.

This is a very nice roof rack which will give your 2012 CX-9 a highly functional, durable and safe method to carry any type of cargo you choose. The rack consists of:

- Round 58" CrossBars # Y00409
- SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y53TR
- RoundBar SL Adapter # Y03536
- Landing Pad 22 # Y00248

It is also recommended you use the Yakima Same Key System (SKS) lock cores # Y07204 in order to lock the rack to your Mazda and secure your investment.

I have added links to a number of video reviews for you to take a look at as well as instruction manuals.
