Updated 10/25/2011 | Published 10/24/2011 >
Question:
Does this item have the converter in the unit? Do I need the converter? My brakes dont work with the blinker while my headlights are on.

It sounds like there is a ground issue on your trailer and when you have the amperage of all of the circuits maxed out (the blinkers, brakes and turn signals on) the bad ground prevents the tail lights from functioning correctly.
I would recommend you go over your trailer looking for loose wiring and corrosion and fix as necessary.
Also, this unit does not have a converter built into it. Most likely, the signal is converted correctly somewhere in the factory wiring of your vehicle.
