Can 7-Way Trailer Wiring Connector be Used with 5-Way to Activate Reverse Lockout Solenoid
Published 08/14/2018 >
Question:
Just purchased two LED back-up light bars from eTrailer, but didnt give the wiring a lot of thought. My application is a 7-way on the vehicle and a 5-way on the trailer w/surge brake actuator. Can I wire the trailers back-up lights to the blue trailer brake circuit wire coming from the 7-way I use a 7- 5-way adapter, of course, or do I need to splice into the vehicles back-up lights? I believe the lights will pull 2.8A DC.

Yes, if you run the reverse light circuit of your vehicle to the reverse light circuit of the 7-way that circuit will then pass through to the 7-way to 5-way adapter which will allow the reverse lock out solenoid of your trailer with surge brakes to work.
I attached a diagram that shows how a 7-way is wired up too. The center pin of the 7-way is the reverse light circuit.
