Can you please recommend trailer wiring for both vehicles?

Over the years we have found that Tekonsha brand wiring harnesses have the best quality. For your 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118461 as long as you do not have the sport model. For your 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118730.
Both of the above harnesses are almost entirely plug and play. If you need help with installation on your 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon then you can reference the video I have attached for you.
