How do you unscrew a camcorder water heater drain valve to let the hot water heater drain.? I tried turning the wings but all it did was spin. Do I use a wrench just like the standard plastic ones?

The valve may be broken if turning the wings does not open it. Most likely it's time for a new one. I'd need to know what size you need but we have the 1/2 inch like part # A10-4003VP, 1/4 like part # A10-4001VP and 3/8 like part # CAM11683.
