Review of the Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack

Today we'll be taking a look at the Thule Roadway Tilting 2 Bike Rack, part number TH912XTR. The Thule Roadway hitch mounted 2 Bike Rack is the perfect solution for carrying 2 bikes from point A to point B. The dual arms are going to provide excellent support for our2 bikes. The cradles themselves are adjustable along the dual arms; they feature cut out grooves so it's going to accommodate our brake lines and our cables a little bit better. The anti sway cradle is going to secure our down tube in place preventing the sway and the movement in our bike while we're on the road. It also features a cam buckle strap which we'll can run through our bike's frame down through the accessory of the bike rack to reduce more movement in our bike. When not in use the Thule Roadway's dual arms fold down for compact storage.

The whole bile rack conveniently tilts away so we'll can gain easy access to our rear hatch. The Thule roadway features an anti rattle bolt which is going to help keep it snug up against the receiver while we're on the road; it going to reduce a lot of the movement. It also includes a tool to make it a tool free installation. The whole bike rack is made out of a durable steel construction with a 70 pound weight capacity and a black powder coat finish so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. As always Thule stands behind their product and offers a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we'll got all our features I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. This bike rack can be used for either inch and a quarter or 2 inch hitches.

That's class 1, 2, and 3. We'll have our shank with the 2 inch adapter on it for our 2 inch receiver. You can simply remove the bolts, take it off, and then you've got an inch and a quarter. Let's go ahead and put it in our 2 inch by 2 inch receiver. We'll line up our pin holes. Then we'll grab our included anti rattle bolt.

We'll insert that here on the passenger side. We'll just get that hand tightened for now. The nice thing about this anti rattle bolt is its going to help reduce some of the play and rattle within our hitch and our bike rack. You can see without that being tightened down we've got a lot of play in there. We'll grab our included tool and let's tighten that down.

There we'll go. Once that's secure as you can see most of that play is gone. Now we'll can get ready to load up our bike. What we'll want to do is raise up the dual arms. We'll come up here to the grey lever, pull up, rotate the dual arms up until it snaps into place. Just like that. Now let's undo our straps. Now let's grab our bike. We'll come up and over the dual arms, make sure it sets evenly in the bars. We'll also make sure that the down tube is nice and snug up at this cradle 00:02:41 here. We'll go ahead and do this one first. We'll bring our strap around, clip it in, and then for our top, too. Perfect. Now that we've seen how to load up one bike let's go ahead and load up one more. Now some bikes such as women's and children's and bikes with alternative frame styles medical advocate require the need for a bike adapter bar just sit evenly on the bike rack. Thule makes one here and that's going to be part number TH982XT. Let's go ahead and take our equipment strap and strap our bikes in. What we're g do is we're going to go through the loops down here in our bike rack, we'll come through the back, we'll bring the strap through our frame, and then we'll tighten that down. There we'll go. Now we're ready to hit the road. Here at our test course, let's first go into our sloam 00:03:38 because it's going to show side to side action such as going around corners and then basic maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps; this is going to show a twisting action such as going over pot holes or uneven pavement. Then on to our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking lot. That's going to complete our look at the Thule Roadway Tilting 2 Bike Rack foe inch and a quarter and 2 inch hitches, part number TH912XTR.
