If you check page 550 of your owner's manual it states that a 2012 Ram 1500 with a 3.7L V-6 engine has a towing weight capacity of 3,750 lbs.

For a trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41948 which is the most popular trailer hitch for your 1500.

You also need wiring like the Tekonsha # 119178KIT for a 4-Way and then the Kit # ETBC7 if you need a fully functioning 7-Way.

I recommend using an adjustable ball mount like the B&W # BWTS10049B which comes with 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" hitch balls which allow you to adapt to a variety of towing applications.
