Uninstalling Hayes Syncronizer Brake Controller From 2014 Ford Explorer

I recently just purchased a used 2014 Ford Explorer. It has an option to tow and the Hayes brake controller is attached under the dash. We most likely will never tow anything. Is this easy to take off, and if so will it affect the actual brakes at all? What needs to be done to disconnect it? Thank you.

Expert Reply:

To disconnect the Hayes brake controller you can simply unclip the wiring connection behind your trailer brake controller and tuck it out of the way. Then you can remove the brake controller from it's mount and either discard it or sell it. It will not in any way effect the braking on your vehicle. It only captures the brake light signal and then sends power to a trailer with brakes. Removing it will have no impact on your vehicle but only on your trailer towing ability.
