Question:

can i mount this forward towards the winshield and rearward towards the back wind so i have enough distance to put a thule interstate bag between them on my roof?? just trying to keep the bag down as much as possible. thule th869,,or do i have to mount were it says in the instructions? 2000 pontiac grand am 4 door..no sun roof..

On your 2000 Pontiac Grand Am 4 door the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs SR1004 was a confirmed fit but has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It has a mandatory fit location with a crossbar spread of 23.5 inches. It cannot be moved from the mounting locations to fit the Thule Interstate Rooftop Cargo Bag # TH869 between the rails, but because the bag is flexible, you can load your cargo between and over the bars without issue. This combination will give you the stability you need, but some of your cargo load will be in front of, over, between, and behind your bars. This is completely okay as you can see in the attached instructions.

Most vehicles will not have the crossbar spread to allow a 40 inch bag between the crossbars. For a roof rack currently available to fit your vehicle, I recommend the Inno Aero Rack Consisting of # INXB115-2, # INXS250, and # INK153.
