Question:

I was given a Reese Weight Distributing Hitch that I would like to use for my Prowler 19E. It has around 700 lbs tongue weight and is pulled by my 2016 F150. how do I tell what size bars I have with the setup I have and what is the correct size for what I am pulling? The truck does ok without weight distribution but I would like to add it for a bit of stability, ive heard horror stories about bent receivers with too much hitch. Thanks.

I spoke with my contact at Reese regarding your Weight Distribution System # RP67509. She stated that there should be a capacity listed with a sticker, located near the end of the spring bar. If the label/sticker is not present, then there should be a part number stamped into the bar itself. If you can provide me with this part number, I can then confirm its weight capacity for you.

In order to choose the correct capacity spring bars to use on the system, you will want to determine your setup's total tongue weight. This includes both the loaded tongue weight of your trailer (as if ready for a trip), along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your F-150. If your total tongue weight is around the 700 pound weight that you mentioned in your question, the Replacement Round Bar # RP58114 will be the best option for your existing system. These have a tongue weight capacity of 500 to 800 pounds.
