Largest Rooftop Mounted Cargo Box Available for a 2016 Acura MDX

The Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box part # TH629906 has one of the largest internal storage compartments (22 cu. ft.) of any roof box on the market. The roof box has a glossy back finish, dual sided openings, and easy to use mounting hardware. The box measures 91-1/2" long x 37-1/2" wide x 18" tall and works with most factory crossbar types/spreads.

If the rear shark fin antenna on the roof of your 2016 Acura MDX extends up past the height of the crossbars then none of our cargo boxes will clear the antenna. If the shark fin antenna does extend up past the height of your roofs crossbars, then the best option for you would be to use a hitch mounted cargo carrier like the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches # Y62VR which will also require a trailer hitch like part # C13146.

In order to determine if the above cargo box will clear the rear hatch while open you will need a minimum of 52 inches from the point where the roof meets the hatch to the center of the front crossbar. I have attached a review video of both the hitch and roof cargo boxes for you as well.

Thank you for the answer, the antenna is not higher than the bar but I think all I need is 14 to 16 size. My concern is the fitting and hatch clearance and allow enough room for the antenna to have a clear opening to the sky for good reason signal.

It sounds to me like a cargo box with a high profile and short length will be your best option then if you only need 14-16 cu. ft. of cargo space as this will more than likely not cover the rear shark fin antenna and clear the hatch while open. Even if the cargo box covers the rear antenna, the signal will not be affected. The signal is more or less affect by what is in the box. For this I recommend the SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box part # SR7018. The SportRack Vista XL actually has 18 cu. ft. of storage space but is only 63" long. However, unlike the Thule Motion XT that fits a wide range of crossbar spacings, the SportRack Vista XL will only work with the following crossbar spacings: 23-5/8", 25-7/8", 27-7/8", and 29-7/8". If your crossbar spacing does not fall within this range then let me know what your spacing is and I would be glad to offer a better fit for you. Unfortunately, we have not have the chance to test any of our rooftop cargo boxes on a 2016 Acura MDX yet so our compatibility information is limited to the consumer.
