The Kat's Heaters Engine Oil Dipstick Heater # KH15200 does not have a built-in thermostat since it is intended to be installed for a relatively brief period of time but not overnight or for extended periods the way a battery tender would be used. The dipstick heater will typically do its job in a matter of an hour or two.

It is important to note that whenever the heater is in use it must have no less than 5-inches of its rod length immersed in the engine oil.

Instructions advised to plug it in when the oil is still hot. How else are you going to do that without letting it run all night?

@Ryan you'd want to plug it in right after you park the vehicle. So when you get home and the engine is still warm plug it in at that point.
