Question:
Hi, i want a hitch for my 2012 VW Routan. i think i need hitch 75579 and wiring 118490. but i am unsure with the ball mount. i assume my the top of my hitch tube will have a height of 15. standard u-haul trailers have a ball height of 18. so i assume i need a 3 inch RISE for the ball mount. but i am unsure whats the right one because some are apparently fixed so i assume i can´t use a 3 inch DROP ball mount and reverse it ? Best regards,

The Draw-Tite # 75579 along with the Tekonsha Wiring Kit # 118490 are excellent options to use for getting your 2012 Volkswagen Routan ready to tow. I have attached installation videos for each on a similar Routan for you to reference.
If you check out the video for the Draw-Tite # 75579, we found that when we installed it on a 2012 Routan that the distance from the ground to the top of the receiver opening was 12-1/4 inches. If the bottom of the coupler on your trailer measures 18 inches when it is level then that means you will want to get a ball mount with a Rise of about 6 inches (see attached helpful article on Ball Mounts).
A lot of ball mounts can be flipped over to use for a Rise situation. For example; the Curt # C45090 is a ball mount with a Drop of 8 inches, but can be flipped over for a Rise of 6 inches which would be perfect for your application. You will need to purchase the Pin and Clip # PC3 or a Locking Hitch Pin # e98880 separately.
The hitch ball is also sold separately so for a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball you can use part # 19260, for a 2 inch hitch ball use part # 63845, or for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball use part # 63847.
If you will be using your Routan to tow for a few different applications it may be better to go with an adjustable hitch ball like part # AM3411 .
