Question:
I need to haul a one ton tree 25 ft up a hill with a 28 degree slope. The tree will be in a 36inch x 24inch cement mixing tub and connected to the hand winch cable with a tow strap. The hand winch would be anchored in a solid tree stump. The slope is smooth and grass covered. Would your one ton Dutton Lainson worm gear hand winch work for this purpose using a the 5/8foot socket and variable speed electric drill? thanks, Steve

Unfortunately there is no way that a one ton winch like the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Hex Drive Handle - 2,000 lbs # DL11004 will work to pull that one tone tree up a 25 foot hill with 28 degree slope. Winches have the ability to pull their listed load on level ground. Your inline will add just over 50% so you'd multiply the capacity by about 1.86 according to the attached article. The closest we would then have is the Fulton High-Performance 2-Speed Trailer Winch with Handbrake - Cable Only - Zinc - 3,700 lbs # F142430 along with cable # FWC7500100. This would still be a little underrated and doesn't account for your mixing tub or other weight.
My recommendation is to go up to an electric utility winch for safety. I recommend the Bulldog Winch Trailer Winch - Wire Rope - Roller Fairlead - 4,400 lbs # BDW15019. This can be connected to a 12V battery and will pull your tree up the hill safely.
