Can the Prodigy RF Brake Controller be Used with a Rental Truck and Personal Trailer
Updated 09/25/2017 | Published 09/24/2017 >
Question:
I need to tow my 18foot flatbed car hauler about 1300 miles and would like to use a UHaul truck as the tow vehicle. UHaul permits private trailers to be towed but there are no brake controllers in their trucks UHaul trailers use surge brakes. My trailer has electric brakes on both axles, and the UHaul 15foot trucks have a 7-way connector but it supplies only power for lights. This product seems like the answer, but I want to verify that this will do the trick before I purchase it. Does this sound like a good application for this controller? Thanks.

Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # TK94FR is a great solution for your rental truck/personal trailer set up. The only thing you will need to check on is the 7-Way on the truck. In order for the Prodigy RF to work that 12 volt circuit on the 7-Way must be active because that is how the RF gets power.
On the 7-Way use a circuit tester such as # ALL640595 or a meter if you have one to verify there is power on the pin in the 1 o'clock position. If so (and assuming all the pins for the lights work too) then the set up will work!
