Question:
I am trying to connect a trailer brake controller to my 2009 chevy silverado. The truck did not come with a towing package originally, but it does have a hitch. What wiring harness will I need to but to make this work? I was wanting to buy a Tekonsa Primus IQ controller.

Great news is that the wiring is already run for you to add a brake controller to your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. There will be a bundle of wires just to the side of the brake pedal that you will need to locate and bring down for the installation. There should be a guide attached to it that will tell you what each of the wires are. To install the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 you will want to connect the pigtail from the Primus IQ to the following functions:
Black - 12V Power
Blue - Signal that runs to the 7-Way connector
White - Ground
Red - Stop Light Switch
You may also need to install some fuses or attached some pre-existing wires to the battery. I have attached an installation video for you to use as a reference.
If you do not already have a 7-Way installed at the rear of your Chevy then you will also need to locate either the bundle of wires above your spare tire then you will want to install the Pollak # PK11898. If you have the connector instead of the bundle of wires then you will want to use the Hopkins # 30955.
I have also attached a helpful article on installing everything for a brake controller on 2007 - 2013 GMC Sierras and Chevy Silverados for you to reference.
