Hitch Bike Rack Recommendation That Will Fit My 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Updated 05/02/2011 | Published 04/29/2011

Question:

I recently bought a 2011 Chevy Malibu and now my 990XT Doubletrack bike rack will not fit without using an adapter to use the 2 sleeve. I want to get the 970XT Helium but I am worried the rack will rub on the bumper. I measured 8 from the center of pin to the edge of the bumper - will 1/4 be enough clearance for the 8.25 stinger? Thank you!

With only a 1/4 inch of clearance, I would look into another hitch mounted bike rack over the # TH9042PRO. The reason being that there is just so little room for error and there is an increased risk for damage to the bumper fascia when mounting the hitch bike rack. Also, when using an adapter or extender, the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is reduced by half.

I would recommend going with the Lets Go Aero NEO2 2-Bike Rack, part # B01748, which has 12-1/4 inches of clearance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar. You will have plenty of clearance and it can be used in a 1-1/4 or 2 inch hitch.

If you will be carrying women, children or alternative frame bicycle, I would recommend using the Swagman Frame Bike Adapter Bar, part # 64005. The Swagman adapter bar will allow you those style of bikes level on the bike rack.

I have linked instructions and a video review of the Roadway Hitch Bike Rack, part # TH912XTR. Also linked is a video review of the Swagman Frame Bike Adapter Bar, part # 64005.
