The black box that you are referring to on the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness # 43365 is a tail light converter. This is used to ensure that your Tundra's wiring will match that of your trailer. Your 2000 Toyota Tundra uses a separate wiring system, meaning the brake and turn signals are sent along separate wires. The converter is required to combine the brake and turn signal functions on the vehicle so that they run on one wire to properly activate the trailer lights.
This plug-in harness will connect directly to the OEM port located behind the rear bumper on the driver's side of your Tundra. I have also included the installation details that you can look through.
