The Thule Roof Mounted Cargo Basket, part # TH859XT, is an attachment for roof bars that are attached to the car. They do not require any additional drilling to assemble.
If you do not have raised side rails, I recommend the Thule WingBar kit, consisting of
- 47 inch WingBars, part # TH711200 in silver or # TH711220 in black
- Podium Roof Mount Feet, part # TH460R
- Thule Fit Kit, part # THKIT3068
If you do have raised side rails, I recommend the same WingBars except you need the Evo raised rail feet, part # TH710401, instead of the feet and fit kit.
I've included a review of the cargo basket on a 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon so you can get an idea of what the finished product looks like.
After installing the roof kit, you can then install the cargo basket.
I recommend also obtaining a tube of Loctite Gasket Maker, part # LT37467 to seal the two pieces of the cargo basket together and prevent internal rust from forming inside the bars.
