5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Bracket Kit for a 1995 Chevrolet 1500 with 6-1/2 Foot Bed

Updated 08/16/2017 | Published 07/19/2017

Question:

Thank you so much for your help and advice and we did purchase the fifth wheel hitch, bolt kit, and 7 pin wire kit from E Trailer! One other question now is we are now looking for the most economical in cab brake controller for our 1995 Chevrolet C1500 Silverado short bed pick up truck. We think the Reese Towpower #8507111 Brake Controller is compatible and a good price? We know you do not sell them and understand if you can not comment but would appreciate any help! Thank you for your help and time!

I do have a solution for you but the Curt E16 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with Universal Install Kit # C16616 is not confirmed to fit your 1995 Chevrolet 1500.

The E16 hitch will work just fine for you. It's a sliding hitch which will help with turning clearance since you have a short bed truck. For the hitch use # 16516.

Then you need a bracket install kit with base rails. A universal it that does fit your truck is # RP30035. This fits just fine with the Curt hitch.

You may also want to add a 7-way connector in your truck's bed to make hooking up easier. If so use # 20023.

The Reese Towpower Brakeman IV # 8507111 is a time delayed controller and from what I can tell is the same as the Draw-Tite Activator IV # 5504 that we carry. Both Draw-Tite and Reese are owned by the same parent company and Reese Towpower is a sister company to Reese. Personally, I recommend going with a proportional controller, like the Voyager # 39510 or Primus IQ # TK90160, because the braking is much more smooth and it'll put less wear on the truck and trailer's brakes. A proportional controller applies the amount of braking force equal to that of which your truck is slowing down. A Time delayed controller applies the same amount of force each time based on the settings you set. The benefit of a time delayed controlled is the install is a little easier since they can face any direction and they're not as expensive. However, the two proportional controllers I mentioned I competitively priced to the Activator IV. The Activator IV, Voyager, and Primus IQ can all be installed using the wiring adapter # 20127. I've also linked an article on brake controllers for you.
