Question:

Hello, I'm choosing between the two available Curt and Draw-Tite hitches for a 2017 Chevy Volt. My bike rack 1up USA recommends a 4-inch insertion depth. I notice that the Draw-Tite that etrailer recommends has a tab stop that prevents over-insertion. Do you know at what depth the tab is at? Is there any appreciable ground clearance difference between these two hitches?

I went to the warehouse to take a measurement, and the stop tab depth on the Draw-Tite # 24947 is four inches from the front of the receiver, so there should not be an issue with insertion depth on your 1UP USA bike rack.

The reason for that tab is because like the Curt # C11436, the Draw-Tite is a Class I hitch, and the tab is designed to prevent an accessory from being used unless it is Class I rated.

In terms of measurements the hitches do offer slightly different ground clearances; the Draw-Tite gives you 9-3/4 inches and the Curt gives you 10-1/2 inches of clearance. They do offer the same measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper, 5-1/4 inches.

For your '17 Volt I recommend the Draw-Tite # 24947 because it has a 200 lb tongue weight capacity compared to the 100 lb capacity of the Curt. This is important in case you have a rack and heavier bikes that may exceed or come close to 100 lbs of total weight.

I have also added links to installs of both hitches on a 2017 Chevy Volt for you to check out.
