Installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 on a 2004 Land Rover Discovery II

I would like to purchase a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller for my 2004 Land Rover Discovery 2. Please advise me what wiring i need to purchase to make the connection. I have a 7 way connector on my trailer and on the vehicle. Do i need an independent 2 way connector to power the brakes.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is an excellent choice for a brake controller and one of our favorites because of how easy it is to setup and use. To install it you will want to make these connections:
White - Ground
Red - COLD side of the stop light switch (only gets hot when brake is pressed)
Black - Positive terminal on battery (using a Circuit Breaker # PTW2992 along that wiring)
Blue - Run to the brake controller function on your 7-Way
Since your 2004 Land Rover Discovery II already has a 7-Way connector you will need to do some poking around first. Before running 2 wires I recommend using a Circuit Tester # 3808 to see if you are getting power to the 12V power pin on your 7-Way. It should be the pin in the 1 o'clock position. If you are getting 12V of power to that pin then you will only need to run 1 wire # 10-1-1 from your 7-Way to the P3. You can use Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 to make sure the wires are properly connected.
If you are not getting power to the pin in the 1 o'clock position then you will want to use the Wiring Kit # 5506 to run wiring to your brake controller and the positive side of the terminal on your battery. Be sure to install the included 40 amp circuit breaker near the battery along the 12V power wire as well.
