Question:

Looking for help to the correct weight distribution system. I have heard good things about the Curt Brand. I have 2015 Chevy Colorado with 7000lb towing capacity, my trailer is a dual axle with 3920lb Dry with 1277lb carry capacity. The dry weight hitch is 415lb. I understand if I get a to heavy system it will make a for a harsh ride? Would you recommend a pin style trunnion bar or a tru-track system? Thanks

You are correct that a weight distribution system that is rated too high for what you need can cause a rough ride for you. On the other hand if it's rated too low it won't be able to do its job.

If your trailer is fully loaded you'll likely have a loaded and ready to tow tongue weight between 500 and 600 pounds. You also need to add in the amount of weight behind the rear axle of your 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.

With that being said you're probably looking for a system rated in the neighborhood of 600 to 800 pounds. To be sure you can weigh your trailer's tongue weigh using a scale like # e99044.

If you're sold on a Curt system I suggest the Pin-Style Trunnion Bars # C17341. It's rated for 800 pounds. You'll need a hitch ball as well. Use # A-6 for a 2-5/16 inch or # A-90 for a 2 inch.

However, the Curt systems do not include sway control until you get into at least 1,000 pound tongue weight range. If you'd like a system with sway control I suggest the Equal-I-zer # EQ37100ET. It's rated from 600 to 1,000 pounds and includeds 4-point sway control.
